STARTING SHOT
Clement Poirel had a dream that he could realize in 2020 when the cellar and the vineyards from Jean-Francois Chene in Beaulieu-sur-Layon in southern Anjou came up for sale. A great opportunity because such a natural pearl is rare and seldom for sale. Clement took over 1 hectare of Chenin Blanc, 0.5 hectare Cabernet Franc, and 0.5 hectare Grolleau, mainly located on hillsides on schistose soils. This became the starting shot for Clement and his soul mate Helene de Fontainieu, who told the beautiful story of Tessa Laroche "a year in the heart of the Loire Valley vineyards" through photographs.
father FRANCIS POIRELJust like his famous father Francis Poirel who took the wines of Chateau du Suronde to great heights, Clément is inspired by the interaction of man, earth, and nature. The focus is on the work in the vineyard where everything is done according to biodynamic principles with respect for nature's cycle. He does the least possible intervention on the wines and through various vinification choices, he tries to offer different aromatic facets from the grapes. His passion is to make natural wine in which the vintage reflects the terroir telling its own story. His aim is to respect the life of the soil in order to maintain the balance of the vine and thus the balance of the wine.
stunning winesInspired by his father in an upbeat spirit and the wine itself Clement and Hélène chose to design the labels to be as bright as possible in unexpected colors with a look that is as energetic as the name. Sub Divo (sous le ciel) and Hora Noctis (l'heure de la nuit) will soon jump out on the table. We recently tried the oxidative 2020 Hiltrudis Chenin Blanc and the 2021 Hiltrudis Chenin Blanc wines and both are stunning and finally available.
